At 106, Margaret Dilullo of Sinking Spring considers herself a Yuengling superfan. She credits, faith prayer and a beer a day for her long life, and she insists that beer be Yuengling Lager, a brew she has enjoyed since D.E. Yuengling & Sons began brewing it in the 1980s.

After learning about Dilullo through social media and outreach from her family, America’s oldest brewer took the chance to celebrate one of its oldest fans.

Thursday, the Pottsville-based brewer thanked Dilullo for her lifetime as a customer – she reportedly was a Yuengling Premium drinker before the Lager came out – by making a surprise visit to her family.

Debbie Yuengling and other members of the company delivered a truck containing a gift of several cases of Yuengling Lager cans and bottles to Dilullo and her family, with the goal of giving the fan 107 beers, one for each year for celebrating her birthday in December.

Yuengling said the super fan was surprised and thrilled with her gift, which was arranged with the help of her family, and it was an enjoyable experience for everyone.

“It was overwhelming to see someone so passionate about Yuengling,” she said. “Her motto is ‘happiness is Yuengling.”

The event was attended by five generations of Dilullo’s family as well as friends, neighbors and her bible study group, and everyone was invited to join in on the celebration of her favorite beer.

Noting that Dulillo told her that she will sometimes splurge and have a second lager on a particularly hot summer day, Yuengling said she loves the fact that the 106-year-old credits her family’s beer with her longevity.

“She told me ‘beer is in the bible, it’s good for you,’” Yuengling said.

And she hopes that the love of a good lager will mean long life and happiness for the younger generations of the Dulillo family as well.
