D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc. of Pottsville has reached an agreement with Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties LLC and Sun Dome Inc. for the naming rights of the Sun Dome on the University of South Florida’s campus in Tampa, Fla., where the company has brewing operations.
According to an announcement this afternoon, the name change from Sun Dome to Yuengling Center takes effect July 1 for the 10-year contract. Tampa Bay Entertainment Properties was the agent for the university.
A Division I university in the American Athletic Conference, the University of South Florida plays men’s and women’s basketball and women’s volleyball in the arena. The multipurpose arena holds 10,500 people and hosts hundreds of events a year, also including concerts, trade shows, rodeos, festivals and community and university events.
The partners will create a full corporate and social responsibility platform inside the arena and throughout the campus as part of the deal. Highlights include leveraging kiosks at Gate A and D to the arena for messaging, designated ride-share locations and new initiatives with students, funded by Yuengling.
The Yuengling Center name will replace all Sun Dome names in and on the facility, on campus and on all local signage. All digital and social media domains, as well as facility uniforms, will have the Yuengling Center logo.
“Yuengling has been brewing beer in Tampa for nearly 20 years,” said Jen Yuengling, sixth generation brewer, D.G. Yuengling & Son Inc., in a statement. “Yuengling Brewery is a family company, first and foremost, and we think this partnership is a great way to help further enhance the local community.”
Several other elements are included in the partnership deal, including tickets and hospitality for football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball and all events at the newly named Yuengling Center.
Yuengling’s Tampa brewery is about a mile from campus.
In Bethlehem, Yuengling has its name attached to Musikfest Café, a venue inside ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks with a view of the historic Bethlehem Steel blast furnaces.
The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Officials at Yuengling could not be reached for comment.
It is believed to be the first time Yuengling has sponsored the naming rights to a large sports facility.
