Western Lehigh pipeline project gets $1M boost

The grant comes from the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Pipeline Investment Program. It was awarded to the Lehigh Valley Economic Investment Corp. to facilitate the development of the UGI-owned pipeline, which will start in Upper Macungie Township and end at Golden Key Road in Weisenberg.

The project will provide access to energy for 14 commercial businesses and 15 residences.

“Not only will it supply the business park, it could also open up new land for development,” said Colin McEvoy, director of communications for Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corp., which works with the LVEIC.

There is an additional 7-acre parcel of undeveloped land along the proposed pipeline’s route, which is being considered for hotel and retail development.

McEvoy said parts of Upper Macungie Township, where the pipeline will originate, will also be able to access the pipeline.
