Hungry travelers in a hurry have a new option at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Hanover Township, Lehigh County.
The airport has installed a new unattended retail system, called Canteen Smart Market, which will allow travelers to grab fresh food, beverages and snacks before they hop on the plane.
Looking like an oversized vending machine, the Canteen allows its users to make single purchases using their credit cards. Regular travelers can even sign up for an account at the kiosk or online at www.smartmkt.com to make payments.
“Offering options for passengers certainly enhances the level of customer service at ABE. Sometimes eating a meal might seem impossible when you’re rushing through the airport, but this set-up allows anyone to grab and go, said Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of the Lehigh Northampton Airport Authority.
The automated market would be of particular use for those traveling at off hours when other shops aren’t open.
“We offer our guests a safe and simple solution for breakfast, lunch, dinner and all snacking needs; 24 hours a day, seven days a week,” said Eric Murray, district manager, Canteen.
Nearly 90,000 passengers traveled through LVIA during the month of June.
