As the business world and consumers go more mobile, so does the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
The chamber last week launched MyChamberApp to help the Berks County community to buy local, shop local and save local.
“What set this app apart from other versions [is] that it works if you are visiting another city or state,” said Melissa Varone, Reading chamber’s assistant vice president, marketing. “You easily look up restaurants and activities when you are traveling. It is a handy tool for news, information and deals.”
The chamber learned about the app at the annual association show of the American Chamber of Commerce Executives, Varone said.
MyChamberApp is the only nationwide mobile directory of businesses owned by local chamber members. The app helps chamber members find and promote their businesses, events and network within their local community.
Together with its about 1,500 members whose companies employ a workforce of more than 90,000 people in the Greater Reading area, MyChamberApp will enhance the Reading chamber’s efforts to advocate for a strong local economy.
The app is free to download and highlights chamber-member businesses, helps prospects find member businesses and makes it easier for members to patronize other members.
All chamber members receive a free listing in the directory; they can enhance the listing for $10 a year, Varone said.
The app is available for iPhone, iPod, Android and Blackberry and allows users to:
• Find members in the chamber’s directory, including websites and maps.
• Search by category, including shopping, dining, entertainment and sports.
• Receive special offers and member discounts.
• Search and find Greater Reading chamber events.
