An official grand opening is being held today at Lehigh University in Bethlehem for the latest PSECU credit union financial education center.
The center is in the university’s newly renovated Building C on the Mountaintop Campus.
It is the 24th financial center the credit union has opened at a college or university in the state.
It most recently opened a financial education center at Kutztown University in Berks County.
The credit union, which was founded for Pennsylvania state employees, has financial education centers in 12 of Pennsylvania’s 14 state universities and 12 private schools.
More than just a credit union, PSECU spokesman David James Misner said, the location also is aimed at educating students about financing.
“It helps by giving them the resources they need,” he said.
The FEC will provide seminars and online resources to help students learn more about financial management.
Part of the educational component comes from the peer-to-peer style of managing the location.
Each location has a manager and student interns, which work there and learn about the banking industry.
“That’s good for their learning,” Misner said.
Five Lehigh University students have been hired to work at the center. The students will work alongside Candice Richards, PSECU’s community manager at Lehigh University.
The center also offers an ATM, plus there are two other ATMs on Lehigh’s campus.
