The airport has been reporting passenger increases for the past 18 consecutive months, but March was LVIA’s single highest month for number of passengers since 2011.
“This positive momentum continues with strong performances from all four commercial carriers, which indicates a strong economy and air travelers choosing the convenience of their neighborhood airport,” Thomas R. Stoudt, executive director of the Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority, said in a press release.
A total of 76,512 passengers traveled through the airport in March.
American reported a total passenger increase of 49 percent, followed by Allegiant Air, which was up 9.7 percent. Delta Airlines was up 8.5 percent, and United Airlines increased 5.9 percent.
Stoudt said he is expecting continued growth heading into the summer with the start of a handful of new routes.
Daily service to Chicago aboard American started in April, while seasonal service to Nashville and Savannah/Hilton Head aboard Allegiant is expected to begin soon.
