The Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Healthcare announced it selected Capital BlueCross and Geisinger Health Plan to administer the organization’s self-funded health plans for its members.
The LVBCH is a nonprofit coalition of more than 221 members that are large and mid-sized employers mostly based in the Lehigh Valley. The companies insure more than 140,000 employees across the country.
The LVBCH’s board of directors, which evaluates health plans every three years, designates preferred partners, which means the plans have demonstrated better performance, pricing and enhanced service capabilities for its members.
The plans scored high in the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalition and shared LVBCB’s goals for “improving quality, patient safety, transparency and efficient care delivery,” according to a news release.
Capital BlueCross has been a preferred partner for more than seven years, but this is the first time Geisinger Health Plan has been selected, said Carl Seitz, president of LVBCH, based in Bethlehem.
Seitz said Geisinger could extend the coverage area to its members in northern Pennsylvania.
“With health insurance rates continuing to rise, the coalition is helping employers hold down their costs through these purchasing initiatives,” Seitz said.
LVBCH negotiates rates that are exclusive to its members.
