Workers and residents of downtown Allentown are getting something they’ve been asking for, a neighborhood grocery store.
City Center Investment Corp., said it has leased space on the ArtsWalk to Nicole and Steve Shelly, owners of Local Food Market LV, who will be opening a Radish Republic store.
“We’re thrilled to bring a grocery store to downtown Allentown and meet the request of so many of our tenants who live and work downtown,” said Natalia Stezenko, city center retail leasing & activation manager.
The Shelly are no strangers to the local food scene. Their Local Food Market LV delivers locally grown and produced food to businesses and residences in the Lehigh Valley. The couple also runs the Fresh Fridays open-air market in the ArtsPark.
“We’re excited to extend our partnership with City Center Allentown to open Radish Republic and bring fresh, local food downtown to a permanent location,” said Steve Shelly.
According to a press release from City Center, Radish Republic will occupy the 1,800-square-foot space along the ArtsWalk across from the coming Downtown Allentown Market.
The grocer will offer everyday essentials such as produce, meat, dairy products, frozen foods and by-the-pound bulk items, such as flour, grains and beans.
The grocery store will also sell drinks, soups and grab-and-go options such as salads, sandwiches and fruit. It will accept EBT SNAP benefits.
Customers can also order their groceries online and pick them up later.
The Shellys plan to hire four employees.
Radish Republic will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
