The new early education and child care center is run by Joe and Luana Negrao and their family along with a staff of an executive director, assistant director, teachers and assistants.

Established in 1997, Lightbridge Academy locations provide early education and child care to children ages 6 weeks through kindergarten, as well as special programming for children up to age 10 during school holidays, breaks and summer camp.

Joe Negrao said his family became interested in early childhood education when it saw how it benefited its children as they entered kindergarten.

“The way that most schools are going now, they’re starting to bring curriculum into the kindergarten classroom,” he said. “The kids that don’t go to some sort of preschool can get left behind.”

Negrao said he looked at several child care franchises, but was most impressed with the curriculum and training that Lightbridge offered.

Lightbridge is headquartered in Piscataway, N.J., and the bulk of its locations are in the Garden State.

In the Greater Lehigh Valley, there are Lightbridge Academy locations in Bethlehem Township and Allentown, which have different franchise owners.

The opening of the academy isn’t the last step for the Negrao family. Joe Negrao said it is planning the construction of the Goldfish Swim School, a franchise that offers children’s swimming lessons, on property adjacent to the academy.

The new Lightbridge Academy is at 3001 Linden St., Bethlehem. For more information, call 610-624-8356.
