Lehigh Valley Hospital−Cedar Crest has been recognized as a “Best Hospital” for 2019-20 by U.S. News & World Report, according to a July 30 press release.
For the third consecutive year, the hospital is listed in the top five of Pennsylvania hospitals by the national media company, headquartered in Washington, D.C.
The 2019-20 list names Lehigh Valley Hospital−Cedar Crest as number 35 nationally for orthopedics, making it among the top 3 percent of all hospitals in the country for the specialty.
“As we remain driven to achieve the triple aim, providing better health and better care at a better cost, it’s important for our health network to continuously monitor, measure and improve how we are partnering with and serving our patients and community,” said Brian Nester, president and CEO of Lehigh Valley Health Network. “This recognition by U.S. News is one of the key barometers that confirms our dedicated and experienced colleagues are providing high-quality care that our patients need, expect and deserve every day.”
The annual Best Hospital rankings and ratings, now in their 30th year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for health conditions and common elective procedures.
For the 2019-20 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions, measuring quality of care based on risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators.
In the 16 specialty areas, 165 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized hospitals as high performing across multiple areas of care.
“For 30 years, U.S. News has strived to make hospital quality more transparent to health care consumers nationwide,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News and World Report. “By providing the most comprehensive data available on nearly every hospital across the United States, we give patients, families and physicians information to support their search for the best care…”
