For nearly half a century, the John Yurconic Agency has focused on expanding its products, services and office locations, as well as beefing up technology that eases shopping for insurance buyers.
It all began in Allentown in 1969, when John Yurconic Sr. started selling personal and small business insurance, as well as real estate brokerage services. Seven years later, the company expanded to include vehicle registration and drivers license services, led by Yurconic’s brother-in-law, Al Joseph.
The next major growth spurt came in 1989, when John T. Yurconic, the company’s current president, came on board. The agency began to specialize in insurance products for podiatric medical malpractice, restaurants, large businesses, motorcycles and personal autos.
In 1996, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation authorized the agency to serve as an online messenger service. Four years later, Yurconic joined Keystone Insurers Group, a network of independent insurance agents banding together to offer customers a wider array of products and services.
Growth at Yurconic also has been geographic. From its base in Allentown, the agency has spread to 11 offices in Berks, Carbon, Lehigh, Northampton and Schuylkill counties.
The Internet, of course, offers customers another venue for contacting the agency. Over the last few years, the John Yurconic Agency has redesigned its website, adopted a digital marketing strategy and incorporated social media to strengthen its connections to the communities it serves.
The agency’s growth has spurred many decisions over the years. And while the details of each decision may vary, they all have one thing in common: a focus on customers. They appreciate the attention.
“John T. handles both my business and personal insurance,” said one business owner, who has been with Yurconic for seven years. “I have been in business for 38 years, and the Yurconic Agency has done more to help me control our insurance costs than any other agency I have dealt with.”
