Jerdon Construction of Upper Macungie Township recently completed a new firehouse for the Community Fire Co. of New Tripoli.
The $1.3 million project took seven months to complete and was a sizeable addition to the building, said Ron Jerdon, president.
The design/build project included demolition of existing bays to make way for a larger 10,000-square-foot, five-bay structure, with a second-floor mezzanine, that could accommodate larger, more modern fire equipment.
Firefighters temporarily housed all their fire equipment in another structure while the project was under construction, Jerdon said.
During construction, a stream that ran along both sides of the building proved to be a challenge as there was a lot of water infiltration along with heavy rain during the project, he added.
The project includes space for a 24-hour ambulance and EMS crew, in addition to training areas and storage for firefighting equipment.
Jerdon collaborated with the fire company to develop the design, pursue funding and secure all required municipality approvals.
