Health Network Laboratories of Allentown has opened a new cytogenetics laboratory at its main testing facility at 2024 Lehigh St. in Allentown.
The 1,600-square-foot facility, which is in its division of cellular and molecular genetics, will provide physicians and patients with direct access to advanced chromosome analysis.
The company said that is an essential diagnostic testing capability for identifying genetic abnormalities.
Information about genetic aberrations is useful to oncologists in cancer diagnosis, disease classification, monitoring and treatment decisions, as well as providing vital genetic information to people experiencing spontaneous miscarriages or infertility.
The construction work was handled by Serfass Construction of Allentown.
The company expects to hire as many four people to staff the lab, including Lee Kaplan, who is scientific director.
Health Network Laboratories performs clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology services, including highly specialized esoteric testing to hospitals, physicians, long-term and assisted living facilities, businesses and government agencies.
The company services companies in 27 counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
