Kennett Square-based Genesis Health Care, which has operations in Lehigh, Berks, Bucks and Monroe counties, said no local operations will be affected by its agreement to sell its home and hospice operations.
The company announced Wednesday that it would sell the majority of those operations to Compassus, a nationwide network of community-based hospice and palliative care programs, for $84 million.
Those centers, which a spokeswoman said were acquired during a previous merger with Skilled Healthcare, are mostly in the western United States, not in Pennsylvania.
Genesis’ footprint in the Greater Lehigh Valley is mostly with doctor/clinic rehabilitation practices.
The transaction is expected to close in the next 90 days. Genesis said it intends to use the sale proceeds to pay down debt.
