The popularity of craft beer, coupled with the ongoing revitalization of downtown Allentown inspired a father-and-son team to collaborate on a new venture.
Richard Ryan said he plans open Hop Daddy’s Pizza Brewhouse at 732 W. Hamilton St. in Allentown in October.
The site is the former home of Roar Social House, which opened in 2014 and closed in 2017.
Ryan is the co-owner and president of the business, Hop Daddy’s Brewing Co. His son, Kevin Ryan, of Allentown, is a co-owner and business partner.
“We are going to be brewing beer on site and we have a partnership with Sly Fox Brewing of Pottstown and they are helping us get ready for production,” Richard Ryan said. “They are basically helping us get up and running.”
The venue will include a 2,500-square-foot-outdoor beer garden attached to the 4,400 square-foot-restaurant, Ryan said. The restaurant could seat about 150 people inside, he said.
Ryan, of Coopersburg, said the growth in downtown Allentown inspired him to choose the site.
“There’s an awful lot going on in downtown Allentown,” Ryan said. “We have been watching it for some time.”
People now have more options for living and working in the downtown and they need places to have fun, Ryan said.
He’s also happy to be locating near Fegley’s Allentown Brew Works, a long-time brewpub on Hamilton Street.
“I think it will make Allentown a little more of a destination for craft beer,” Ryan said.
In addition to artisan pizza, the menu will include sandwiches, salads, shareable plates and some entrees, he said.
City Center Investment Corp. owns the property.
