“We want to do stuff that’s different and gets people’s attention,” CEO Ed Monborne said. “I’ve got people who drive race cars and jump out of airplanes. They’re not sitting at home sharpening their No. 2 pencils waiting for tax season to start.”

Though the firm primarily serves privately held businesses in Pennsylvania, it has more than 300 employees in 19 states across the nation through its information technology subsidiary, RKL eSolutions. RKL also offers consulting work, fraud investigations and investment banking through its subsidiary, RKL Capital Advisors.

Over the last 10 years, the company has seen compounded annual growth of 15-18 percent, and 100 percent growth in the past five years. While some of that growth is attributable to mergers and acquisitions, Monborne said 60-70 percent has been organic, in local markets.

He noted the range of services his firm is able to provide, along with a commitment to service, as success factors in long-term client retention.

Doug Yocom, president and CEO of Precision Medical Products in Lancaster County, has looked to RKL for business and accounting advice for 20 years.

Prior to buying his business, a spinoff of Arrow International, Yocom sat with one of RKL’s senior partners. They reviewed the numbers and helped Yocom mold the presentation to the board of directors at Arrow International.

“I asked him, ‘What do I owe you for your services?’ ” Yocom recalled. “He said, ‘Nothing. When this all comes to fruition, think about us doing your accounting, audit and taxes at that time.’ That bonded the relationship that has transcended the years.”

RKL also helps Yocom see opportunities.
