Sealed Air Corp. which has a location in Reading, acquired Intellibot Robotics LLC, a manufacturer of robotic commercial floor-cleaning machines.
The transaction has closed; the company declined to disclose the financial terms, said Ken Aurichio, executive director of media relations for Sealed Air, a packaging company headquartered in Charlotte, N.C.
Sealed Air, through the company’s Diversey Taski brand, is a leader in floor cleaning machines, according to Aurichio.
The acquisition included the Internet protocol, manufacturing plant and production, engineers and all employees, including sales staff.
“We see robotics being a rapidly growing opportunity – due in part that in many developed countries there is a shortage of labor for facility management as well as a lot of turnover,” Aurichio said. “Manpower makes up the majority of cleaning costs, and automated floor-cleaning machines will dramatically reduce the cost to clean.”
In Reading, the company manufactures Bubble Wrap and packaging envelopes at its location on Riverfront Drive, according to Jon Scott, president and CEO of Greater Reading Economic Partnership.
“The machines potentially can be used anywhere where traditional floor-cleaning machines are used,” Aurichio said.
These sectors include airports, health care, manufacturing, retail, schools and offices.
Intellibot Robotics is based in Portland, Ore.
