A Berks County woman who worked as a bookkeeper for a business that ran two Meineke Car Care Centers was ordered to pay more than $46,000 in additional restitution for failure to remit state sales and income taxes collected by the business.
Lorraine J. Fritz worked for Reel Time Automotive LLC, which is now defunct.
According to investigators, Fritz failed to turn over $99,671 in collected sales tax and $11,896 in withheld state income taxes.
She was the person responsible for preparing, filing and remitting the taxes for the business.
She pleaded guilty to six misdemeanor tax offenses that stemmed from her actions and was sentenced to six years of probation.
Prior to sentencing, Fritz paid $65,000 in restitution. If she makes full restitution, her probation will be terminated after three years, according to the judge presiding over the case.
According to a release, the Department of Revenue’s Bureau of Criminal Tax Investigations investigated Fritz after an audit uncovered trust fund taxes that were collected and not remitted. The case was referred to the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General.
Senior Deputy Attorney General Anthony Forray prosecuted on behalf of the state.
