A Leesport-based e-commerce firm that specializes in linking independent growers, garden centers and consumers is expanding its presence in the Western U.S. with the addition of an Oregon independent grower, Oregon Pride Nurseries Inc.
Scott Chamberlain, Bower & Branch vice president of operations, said with the addition of the latest grower, the company has now partnered with six growers and 100 garden centers across the country.
The benefit of adding Oregon Pride is that it helps establish a stronger presence and will allow Bower & Branch to have more product offerings in western states.
Currently, the Berks county company is national, however most of its business has been concentrated in the eastern half of the country because of individual state laws and restrictions on shipping plants.
“We need to have growing partners that give us the capability to ship anywhere,” Chamberlain said.
Chamberlain said the roughly five-year-old company has been gradually adding to its garden center and growers as it expands its operations.
The company’s goal is to be able to help independent growers get their product to market; help garden centers better manage their inventory by not having to stock as many plants and trees and providing consumers with the variety plants and trees they want.
From the consumer standpoint, he said www.bowerandbranch.com offers a wide variety of trees, shrubs, grasses, flowers and other garden items that can be browsed and purchased online.
While many plants can be purchased online through other retailers, Bower & Branch specializes in direct shipping from growers and also specializes in larger trees, which can be shipped to and picked up for free at a partner garden center or can be shipped to and even planted at the customer’s home using one of the company’s service providers.
