Behind the List with Martha Geaney of Kutztown University

'Grooming students to be business leaders'

While the economy rebounds and job growth in the nation is slowly on the rise, young professionals are continuously looking for outlets to expand their knowledge and become successful in the working world.

While the economy rebounds and job growth in the nation is slowly on the rise, young professionals are continuously looking for outlets to expand their knowledge and become successful in the working world.

One opportunity that’s proven popular is earning a Master of Business Administration, and with many accredited programs in Pennsylvania, the options seem endless.

Here to answer this week’s “Behind the List” questions and give insight into MBA programs is Martha Geaney, dean of the College of Business at Kutztown University.

Lehigh Valley Business: How long has Kutztown University been operating, and when did it implement its MBA program?

Martha Geaney: We are celebrating a remarkable milestone, our sesquicentennial birthday, 150 years as an institution of higher education in the region.

The MBA has been a program within the College of Business for more than two decades.

LVB: What are the MBA specialties at Kutztown University?

Geaney: Our MBA is what is classified as a general MBA. This means that our graduates have earned a degree that encompasses all business functions such as management, marketing, finance and accounting. More specifically, there are courses that focus on the global economy, ethics and operations management.

It is a program that grooms students to be business leaders in many industries and in many functional roles of an organization’s operations.

LVB: Kutztown University’s business programs recently received Association to Advance Collegiate Schools Business accreditation. Could you please tell us more about what that is and what it means to the university?
