Behind the List with Jim Federico, vice president of sales at Offset Impressions Inc. in Reading

Working closer with customers

With the digital world shaping the way business is conducted, it doesn’t necessarily mean that print is going anywhere.

Commercial printers are continuously developing strategies for print to remain a viable way for businesses to disseminate their message. And while the primary focus is on print materials, printers also are embracing the power of digital communication services. One company that’s doing just that is Offset Impressions Inc. in Reading.

Here to answer this week’s “Behind the List” questions and offer insight into the world of commercial printing is Jim Federico, vice president of sales at Offset Impressions.

Lehigh Valley Business: How long has Offset Impressions Inc. been operating in the Greater Lehigh Valley and what are its primary services?

Jim Federico: We have been servicing the Greater Lehigh Valley since the founding of the company in 1978. Offset Impressions Inc. started as a printing company serving the Berks County and Lehigh Valley areas. Since that time, we have grown from a small regional printer to a full-service print and mail services provider with national accounts.

LVB: What have been some of the biggest hardships and opportunities Offset has encountered throughout its years in business?

Federico: The explosion of digital media has challenged the print industry to retool and reposition itself to more of a communications provider to their customers. This challenge to us and the industry as a whole has opened other opportunities for our company as we look to remain a viable organization for the future.

Mailing services, one-to-one marketing mail pieces and alternative substrate printing have allowed us to embrace technology and work closer with our customers.

LVB: With the digital age influencing the way business is conducted, what strategies has Offset implemented to stay afloat in the world of print?

Federico: We have augmented our product and service offerings in that we offer our customers faster turnarounds with shorter press runs with high-end digital printing to complement our traditional longer-run capabilities. In addition to our digital and mail services, we are proud to be one of a few select groups of national printers that offer printing on plastic substrates.

We have also become the primary provider of plastic overlay book inserts. We innovated a unique bonding process of plastic to paper that makes us the leading source for bookmakers and publishers in the U.S.
