Protecting your business from water and fire damage should be a top priority in assuring safety to your employees and your assets.
Adopting a good coverage policy and ensuring your safety equipment is up-to-date can go a long way should a disaster arise.
Here to answer this week’s “Behind the List” questions and offer insight on fire and water restorations is Alexandria Schueck, vice president of ServiceMaster of Allentown.
Lehigh Valley Business: How long has ServiceMaster of Allentown been operating in the Greater Lehigh Valley and what are its primary services?
Alexandria Schueck: This franchise was established in 1967, operated under current ownership since 1975 and incorporated in 1989. SMA provides emergency mitigation and restoration services after loss by water, fire, trauma or odor. This franchise also offers routine residential and commercial cleaning services and contract janitorial services.
LVB: What have been some of the biggest hardships and opportunities ServiceMaster has encountered throughout its years in business?
Schueck: We try to focus on the opportunities, and we’ve been learning that when customers are treated effectively, respectfully and fairly, they share that satisfaction with others, and that leads to more chances to serve. While I wouldn’t characterize these as hardships, our company has been challenged by changing restoration standards, government regulations and the stagnant economy.
LVB: What have been some of the toughest restorations ServiceMaster has completed?
Schueck: All restoration projects offer unique challenges, some of which require us to develop new techniques and approaches.
Our largest loss-restoration to date occurred some years ago after smoke damaged a multistory commercial building in Allentown. There was little structural damage to the facility, but all interior and exterior surfaces and contents had to be cleaned and deodorized. We were able to complete the project in two weeks, working two and three shifts each day.
LVB: What safety precautions do you take to ensure that you and your clients are safe from any hazards?
