Associate publisher named for LVB

The brands’ parent company, BridgeTower Media, has promoted Cathy Hirko into the new role, which includes oversight of all editorial operations, a renewed focus on community engagement – the growing event business for each property – developing new products and building upon current market growth.

The leadership move takes effect immediately.

Hirko has been instrumental in launching the Women in Leadership initiative for both CPBJ and LVB markets, which has helped to build strong relationships with clients, community leaders and key organizations.

“Being able to help other women share their stories, provide a platform and help them expand their influence and growth has been one of my proudest professional achievements,” Hirko said.

She joined Central Penn Business Journal in February 2016 as its managing editor. Her responsibilities expanded in 2018 when she was asked to help lead the Lehigh Valley Business newsroom in Bethlehem.

She most recently led the effort to redesign the Central Penn Business Journal’s website and is doing the same this month for LVB.

“I can’t help guide these teams without the talented and caring people working hard at CPBJ, LVB and Parent. I’m so proud to be a part of and grow with this organization,” Hirko said. “This is an exciting and challenging time to be working in news. I don’t easily shy away from those challenges.”

Hirko brings more than 25 years of leadership experience from a variety of news organizations. Before joining CPBJ, she managed The Evening Sun in Hanover and held business and assistant metro editor positions for the York Daily Record.

Hirko takes on this new role as former CPBJ and Parent publisher, Kathryn Ross, exits the company. Hirko will report to Suzanne Fischer-Huettner, group publisher at BridgeTower Media.

“Cathy is an innovative and effective leader who has many years of experience growing a trusted brand while launching new products and growing existing ones,” Fischer-Huettner said. “Cathy will bring a great deal of knowledge and market strength to the Central Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley markets.”

Hirko will also be working closely with Mike O’Rourke, publisher of Lehigh Valley Business.

“I’ve worked alongside with Cathy since she joined the LVB team last year,” O’Rourke said. “I look forward to her continued editorial leadership in the Lehigh Valley.”

Hirko, her husband, George, and their 18-year-old son, Robert, live in West Manchester Township, York County.
