With the opening of a new facility in Allen Township, and the holiday season around the bend, FedEx Ground is increasing its hiring efforts, particularly for seasonal workers.

The company said it would hire more than 1,000 seasonal positions for its facilities in the Lehigh Valley, mainly for part-time, package-handling positions.

FedEx Ground’s biggest site in the region is an East Coast hub the company began building north of Lehigh Valley International Airport two years ago. The 260-acre site in Allen Township is a $330 million project at 1000 Willowbrook Road, with employment potentially reaching more than 3,000 workers at full build-out.

The building has potential to process 75,000 packages per hour.

FedEx Ground also has a facility on Avenue B in Bethlehem.

“As online shopping and e-commerce continue to grow, so do the number of packages moving through the FedEx global networks,” David Westwrick, spokesperson for FedEx Ground, said in a statement. “To help the holidays arrive, we expect to add more than 55,000 seasonal positions across the enterprise during this peak season.”
