Apartments eyed for former Holiday Inn

The company, which made the announcement Monday, declined to provide more details other than the plan to demolish the conference center portion in the back of the property on May 20.

“We were approved for permits to begin demolition work inside the former hotel and on the entire former conference center,” Robert DiLorenzo, City Center Allentown project manager, said in a statement. “We have decided to reuse the building for apartments due to the strong demand. We look forward to announcing the details once they’re finalized.”

The Holiday Inn closed in 2017. City Center Investment Corp. bought the hotel, at 902 Hamilton St., later that year and originally said it planned to build a 110-room hotel with meeting rooms on the site. City Center’s original project included 30,000 square feet of office space above the hotel.
