A health care policy expert plans to outline partisan conflicts over health care and their direction when he addresses the annual conference of the Lehigh Valley Business Coalition on Healthcare conference.
Robert Laszewski, president of Health Policy and Strategy Associates, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm, will be the featured speaker at the May 2 conference at DeSales University. The theme is emerging trends in health care.
Laszewski will brief conference attendees on where health care policy in the United States is going – and the competing visions of Democrats and Republicans heading into the 2020 election.
“The Democrats want more government involvement and to fix Obamacare. They even go as far as to suggest a Canadian-style single-payer system,” Laszewski said in an interview. “The Republicans want to repeal Obamacare. Both sides agree that prescription drug prices are too high, but not on how to fix it.”
Laszewski said that he will not offer his personal opinions on the best solutions to the conflict, but detail the current arguments and what the future may bring.
“It’s great to be able to come to the Lehigh Valley and speak to people who actually manage health care costs in the community,” he said.
Also featured at the conference will be an executive conversation on health care moderated by Ashley Russo, president and host of the PEAK TV. Participating in the conversation will be: John R. Morahan, president, Penn State Health St. Joseph's; Chris Pruitt, president and CEO of East Penn Manufacturing; Brian Seiz Accredo, president of Express Scripts Inc.; and Gary St. Hilaire, president and CEO, Capital BlueCross.
