Air Products of Trexlertown reports that it has completed work on the largest industrial gas complex in the world, a facility in Jazan, Saudi Arabia.
The company is 25 percent owned by Air Products and 75 percent owned by ACWA Holding, an infrastructure development firm.
In April 2015, Air Products announced it had been awarded a 20-year contract by Saudi Aramco, Saudi Arabia’s national petroleum and natural gas company, under a joint venture by Air Products and ACWA Holding to build, own and operate the gas complex.
And now, after 25 million worker hours, the project is complete.
It will supply 75,000 metric tons per day of oxygen and nitrogen to Saudi Aramco's refinery and to an integrated gasification combined cycle plant being built in Jazan.
"Overall it took approximately three years to engineer, procure and construct the world's largest industrial gas facility,” said Samir Serhan, executive vice president at Air Products. “The project is significantly larger than anything executed by Air Products to date, and the global company engineering effort speaks to our engineering capabilities and expertise. On top of that, there was the massive recruitment effort to bring the construction workforce and others to the location, train them, and have them understand our focus on safety. The construction success and safety results all speak to the execution by our team."
Air Products said at periods of peak construction periods, roughly 6,000 people were at the site.
The now-complete industrial gas complex is expected to be brought on stream in phases in 2019.
Air Products has worked in Saudi Arabia since the 1970s and made long-term investments in the country with joint venture partners since 2012, it said.
