The SBA Eastern Pennsylvania District Office is recruiting small business leaders for its Emerging Leader Program.

Started in the Eastern Pa. District in 2008, the Emerging Leader Program is now a nationwide program that has helped businesses across the country find more than $73 million in new financing and obtain more than $1 billion in government contracts.

Michael Kane, deputy district director, said his office is looking for about 20 business owners to participate in this year’s program, which he described as an intensive six-month program to help businesses with their three-year growth plan to grow their business, and most importantly add good-paying jobs.

“We work on goal setting, marketing financing … they’re really going to dive deep into their financial statement and into their marketing plan,” Kane said.

To be eligible the small business must have annual sales of $250,000 or more, have at least one employee in addition to the owner and have been in business for three years or more.

Participants can be the owner, president, chief executive officer, chief operating officer, chief financial officer or a key decision maker.

The participant must commit to one evening every other week from April to October for approximately 100 hours of classroom work in the SBA’s King of Prussia office as well as homework and peer-to-peer mentoring. The program is free.

Applications are available at https://www.interise.org/sbaemergingleaders and must be submitted by March 1. Additional information is at www.sba.gov/emergingleaders.
