Alvernia names new provost

Alvernia University in Reading has announced the appointment of Glynis Fitzgerald as the new provost.

She succeeds Interim Provost Jerry Greiner.

Fitzgerald will serve as the chief academic officer overseeing the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Professional Programs, School of Graduate and Adult Education and several other important administrative areas.

Fitzgerald currently serves as associate vice president of Academic Affairs and dean of the School of Graduate Studies at Central Connecticut State University and has more than 20 years’ experience in higher education. She will begin at Alvernia on July 1.

She earned a doctoral degree in organizational/interpersonal communication and a master’s in organizational communication from SUNY Buffalo and a bachelor’s degree in speech communication from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

Fitzgerald was selected in a national search from among more than 60 applicants.
