Cathy Hirko: What is this Women in Leadership newsletter?

You might not have been expecting this newsletter this morning, but we are hoping to make it a part of your regular Greater Lehigh Valley reading.

Last month I wrote a story in Lehigh Valley Business announcing the launch of our Women in Leadership newsletter.

I'm happy to report the feedback was almost instant and positive.

One woman's note actually got me a little emotional.

(I'm not crying! You're crying!)

Here's part of what the she wrote to me:

"When I first read the headline, “LVB to Launch New Women in Leadership Newsletter” my initial response was not positive ... And then I read your story about Brittany Gray. I love the way you wrote your editorial and I feel completely connected to this woman I have never met ...

If this is the type of article that goes into a WIL newsletter, one that helps women grow both personally and professionally without throwing shots at “the men’s club”, then I’m in and will be excited to read what is published."

In a nutshell, this emailer nailed it.

That's what this newsletter is all about. We write profiles offering insight on the challenges faced by CEOs and aspiring CEOs, small-business owners who might need a little push and the leaders who know how to push them.

And yep, almost all of our profiles in the newsletter will be about women, unapologetically about women leaders.

Make no mistake, there is no pity party here. We aren't going to write about how hard it is to raise a family and work full time. No duh folks; we do that every day.

Work is tough and life is, well, crappy sometimes. Let's not dwell on that, let's figure out how to push through it, share insights, and, like Veronica Moore points out in this issue, be vulnerable. It's OK.

Also in the issue, Jennifer Moorehead shares the history of her successful company, Science Explorers Inc. and Liz Rose Choi talks about her journey with Five Thousand Forms and its online arm, GiveMeFive.com

So, enjoy this inaugural issue of LVB's Women in Leadership. If a friend shared this article and you want to sign up to receive it, click here. It's easy enough

And if you know anyone I should be profiling, shoot me an email at chirko@lvb.com. I would love to hear from you.
