The recent closure of Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery on Lehigh Street in Allentown has left the center it once occupied with two large vacancies.

The 8,300-square-foot-restaurant, which opened in 2011, occupied a site at the southeast quadrant of Lehigh Street and Interstate 78. On a retail pad next to the Tilted Kilt is the former home of Rodizio Grill, a 6,700-square-foot restaurant that opened in 2013 but recently closed.

The retail center houses two active businesses – a Turkey Hill convenience store and Dan Schantz Greenhouse & Cut Flower Outlet.

“It was well received in the beginning because it was new,” said Steve Cihylik, a broker who represents the Allentown center for Howard Hanna Frederick Group, in reference to the Allentown Tilted Kilt.

Tilted Kilt owners Christine and John Reehl also owned the Palmer Township Tilted Kilt, which closed and became The Cask Taphouse & Grill in 2017. The Reehls did not return requests for comment.

The initial franchise fee for Tilted Kilt is $100,000 according to FranchiseHelpHoldings LLC.

“I think the casual dining segment is fading, but could come back,” Cihylik said.

Casual dining includes large chain restaurants that focus on more sit-down dining.

Quick casual, a concept that’s similar to fast food but in a more upscale setting, is doing well, he added.

Though the two vacancies leave a significant amount of space open, Cihylik said he has four major restaurant companies looking at the two sites.

Tilted Kilt, based in Tempe, Arizona, had other locations in Pennsylvania, including Wyomissing and King of Prussia that have since closed.

According to the chain’s website, the only other Tilted Kilt in Pennsylvania is in Dickson City.

Randi Hagen, office manager for Tilted Kilt’s corporate office, said there are no other locations in Pennsylvania. She also confirmed that ARC Group acquired Tilted Kilt on June 8.

ARC Group is the owner, operator and franchisor of the Dick’s Wings & Grill concept, according to a news release.
