Reading Regional Airport in Berks County is receiving funds from the state to make infrastructure and equipment upgrades.
Gov. Tom Wolf announced more than $6 million in investments overall, split among several of the state’s 400 airports.
“These airports support hundreds of thousands of jobs and offer services that are attractive to the business community and others interested in general aviation,” he said in a statement.
At Reading Regional the state is providing $552,750 to rehabilitate the airport terminal parking lot.
Some of the other grants include:
• Jake Arner Memorial Airport in Carbon County is receiving $995,250 to rehabilitate the airport’s aviation gas and jet fuel facility.
• Pocono Mountains Municipal Airport in Monroe County is receiving $30,000 to acquire equipment to maintain the airfield.
• Schuylkill County/Joe Zerbey Airport is receiving $225,000 towards the purchase of a new aircraft fueling truck.
According to a press release, the grant money is coming from two sources: $2.2 from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation Aviation Development Program, which comes from the state’s jet fuel tax, and $4 million from the multimodal fund.
The state investment also will be leveraging $2.1 million in local matching funds.
