Glen-Gery Corp., a Wyomissing-based brick and stone manufacturer, has been acquired by Brickworks Limited of Australia.
Brickworks purchased Glen-Gery for $110 million from its parent, Ibstock plc of Leicestershire, England.
Glen-Gery has 10 manufacturing plants and 10 masonry supply centers in the U.S., including in Allentown, Harrisburg, Reading and York.
Ibstock has owned Glen-Gery since 2014. It said in a press release that it initiated the sale to Brickworks as part of a decision to focus on growing its markets in the U.K.
An executive at Brickworks, one of largest brick makers and building-materials manufacturers in Australia, said the company desired to break into the U.S. market.
“We believe the transaction is an ideal market entry into the attractive U.S. industry, with Glen-Gery having established a leading market position in its core geographic area and a reputation for excellent product quality. By combining these two great businesses, we can learn from each other and become even better,” Mark Ellenor, president of Brickworks Building Products North America, said in a statement.
A spokesman for Glen-Gery said no immediate changes are expected as a result of the sale.
Glen-Gery Corp. is now in its 128th year of operation. It currently employs more than 630 people in 10 states.
