UPS will be opening a new 1 million-square-foot “peak season” processing hub Wednesday at 1620 Van Buren Road, Palmer Township and will be hiring more than 1,200 new workers in the area.
Referring to the new building as its Bethlehem facility, UPS expects the package processing hub will provide additional capacity in the Lehigh Valley area during the holiday season.
According to a spokesman for the company, UPS is looking to hire up to 800 package handlers for the seasonal Bethlehem facility as well at least 10 part-time supervisors and more than 50 tractor-trailer drivers.
It will also be hiring for a smaller existing facility that operates year-round at 3895 Eastgate Blvd. in Lower Nazareth Township.
There UPS is looking to hire more than 280 package handlers, up to 20 part-time supervisors and more than 30 tractor-trailer drivers.
The jobs, including part-time jobs, start at $16 per hour.
UPS said earlier in the year that it intended to hire 100,000 seasonal employees across the nation this year.
Workers receiving seasonal positions would have the opportunity to apply for year-round jobs.
