A Bethlehem brewery has purchased a former neighborhood tavern to expand its business.
Two-year-old Bonn Place Brewing Co., which is on Taylor Street, has purchased the former Bavarian Tavern on Broadway, which closed last month.
The former neighborhood bar will provide the brewery with extra space for storage and other needs to expand the company’s brewing operations, said Sam Masotto, who owns the brewery along with his wife, Gina.
The fact that there is also already a taproom in place will also help build the business.
Masotto said he is still working on the details of what exactly he wants to do with the building, which is located within a Keystone Innovation Zone and is eligible for tax credits, but he is looking forward to the growth potential.
“I know the building. I’ve always loved the building,” he said.
Bonn Place Brewing makes a variety of beers from amber ales to Marzen. Having the additional space will help the brewery expand its offerings of beers such as lagers that take longer to produce.
