Zentz, former Fellowship Community CEO, passes away

By ,

The recently retired president and CEO of a Whitehall Township health care campus passed away Tuesday.

Robert Zentz, 81, served as the leader of the organization for more than 22 years and retired this summer because of health concerns.

Fellowship Community is a health care campus that provides Christ-centered caring for seniors and includes independent living and townhouses for residents, along with services for personal care, nursing care and memory care

When Zentz announced his retirement, the board of directors of Bible Fellowship Church Homes Inc., the organization that oversees Fellowship Community, named Robert Erland, chairman of the board, as interim president and CEO.

Since Erland began, the board has begun a search committee for someone to fill the role long term.

Before joining Fellowship Community, Zentz served as vice president of nursing with Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown for 25 years. Throughout his career, Zentz served in many management positions with various hospitals throughout New York.

He also established the presidential scholarship fund at Fellowship Community to help advance the education of employees. Under his direction, Fellowship Community provided more than $3.5 million in charitable care last year.

The campus employs about 360 people, plus about 80-90 Sodexo employees for its dining services.

Zentz served on many boards while also leading Fellowship Community: vice chairperson of St. Luke’s Sacred Heart board of trustees, a member of the Whitehall Township Planning Commission and past president of the Whitehall Area Chamber of Commerce, among other organizations.

Zentz received several awards throughout his career for his community efforts and leadership accomplishments, including the Healthcare Heroes Lifetime Achievement Award from Lehigh Valley Business.
