Hearst Magazine, which purchased Emmaus-based Rodale’s magazine and book publishing divisions in January, has announced that it has signed a multi-year lease for the former Heritage Lanes bowling alley in Easton.

The 20,000-square-foot space will be home to the editorial teams of Bicycling and Runner’s World magazines. More than 75 employees will occupy the space.

A spokeswoman for Hearst said the staff has already moved out of its former Emmaus offices and has been working in a temporary space.

The Easton building is currently under renovation and should be ready for occupancy by spring 2019.

The ground floor of the building will be outfitted with multi-media studios and a mechanical testing lab for product and gear reviews, Hearst said in a release.

The space will be designed as “a creative, high-tech hub for the production of story, photo, video and social content.”

It will also feature the Test Zone, where passers-by can see Runner’s World’s and Bicycling’s product testing in action.

The office also has easy access to trails and paths along the Delaware and Lehigh rivers for product testers.

Ashley Development Corporation of Bethlehem is the developer of the project. In addition to the 20,000 square feet that will be occupied by Hearst, Ashley is also constructing a second story with an additional 20,000 square feet of Class A office space.

Bicycling and Runner’s World now form the foundation of the Hearst Enthusiast Group. Both titles recently announced new business models debuting in late fall of this year that will include memberships and live events, in addition to refreshed print magazines.

Andrew Randolph of ALT Realty represented the owner and Jeff Williams of Cushman & Wakefield represented Hearst in the deal.
