Primary Health Network opens second site in Schuylkill County

By ,

Primary Health Network, a western Pennsylvania health care company, recently opened its second health center in Schuylkill County.

Shenandoah Health Center, 624 W. Centre St. in Shenandoah, offers medical and behavioral health services. The center, which opened in July next to Boyer’s Food Market, is in a building that formerly housed a Domino’s Pizza and Movie Gallery.

PHN opened Schuylkill Community Health Center in Minersville in 2015.

The company employs a medical doctor and licensed social worker at the health center in Shenandoah and is hiring more staff, said Sara Rupp, director of marketing at PHN.

“We are trying to grow the two health centers we have in Schuylkill. As the need grows in the community, so will our services,” Rupp said.

PHN, a private, nonprofit health care organization based in Sharon, Mercer County, near the Ohio border, has more than 50 sites in 17 counties in Pennsylvania and Ohio. PHN employs more than 450 support staff and 150 providers.

The company is the largest federally qualified health center in Pennsylvania, and one of the largest in the country. The designation means it provides primary care and specialty services to largely underserved communities.
