The first time it was eligible, the State Theatre of Easton made the list of the Top Concert Venues Worldwide by Pollstar Magazine, a concert industry trade publication.
The 2018 mid-year ranking of venues, based on ticket sales and organized by venues of similar size, ranked State Theatre as No. 106 worldwide on the list. The ranking puts the State Theatre’s name on a list of such venues as Radio City Music Hall in New York, which was No. 11, and Austin City Limits in Austin Texas, which was No. 72.
Jamie Balliet, executive vice president of marketing for the State Theatre, said theater staff were very excited to make the list right away.
It had just joined Pollstar late last year and began submitting ticket sales in January, so this was the first time it was eligible to be on the list.
“In the past, we didn’t submit to Pollstar, but one of our goals with the more competitive environment was to see what our competition was doing worldwide,” Balliet said.
She said she was very pleased to see the high ranking.
“It’s really exciting. It makes us feel that we’re on the right track,” she said.
While making the Top Concert Venue list was a big plus for the theater, Balliet said just gaining access to the industry insights has been valuable to her team.
“We get out of the Lehigh Valley box and learn from others in the industry, what they are doing,” she said.
She said the ranking also will help the theater promote itself to artists as a venue that draws crowds.
“It shows were competing,” she said. “We’re here. We’re doing it.”
The State Theatre is beginning its 92nd season.
