Starbucks, first retailer at $20M Bethlehem building, opens today
A new Starbucks opens today on the ground floor of the Five10Flats building on East Third Street in South Bethlehem.
The national coffee retailer is the first commercial tenant for the $20 million five-story building under construction and expected to finish in August. The project, developed by Peron Development, includes 95 units.
Residents of the luxury apartments on the upper floors will have private interior access to Starbucks, which will occupy slightly less than 2,000 square feet.
Andreas Lysandropoulos, the manager, said he has 19 employees for the Starbucks location as he prepped the site Friday.
This Starbucks has 42 seats, including soft outdoor seating on the sidewalk, Lysandropoulos said.
“The whole idea of bringing a Starbucks here, we thought it would be a perfect fit, especially with everything we have going on with Five10Flats,” Lysandropoulos said. “It’s part of the amenities that we wanted to have with Five10Flats.”
The Starbucks also has a private meeting room, which customers can reserve ahead of time or use when the room is unoccupied, he added.
The Starbucks is the first one in the Lehigh Valley anchored to a residential project and the only one in the Valley that offers the private meeting room, said John Callahan, director of business development for Peron Development.
“We want to make Starbucks feel very local and very much a part of the community,” Callahan said.
This Starbucks will feature art from local artists and offer live music as part of South Bethlehem’s First Friday celebrations, he added.
The Starbucks joins other coffee shops in the city’s South Side, including Deja Brew, Lit Coffee Roastery & Bakeshop and Saxbys Lehigh.
