Live music at the Mauch Chunk Opera House

- Last modified: June 27, 2018 at 2:46 PM

Friday night, a renowned Grateful Dead cover band and a tribute to the jam-band Phish will take the stage at Mauch Chunk Opera House in Jim Thorpe.

The Dead tribute, Splintered Sunlight, is no stranger to the opera house and is every bit the equal of the various, bigger-named Dead bands.

Formed in 1992 in Philadelphia, Splintered Sunlight has been captivating audiences with its authentic tribute to the Dead, and the band’s faithful following reflects its deep understanding of the traditions of improvisation in jam-band music.

From its authentic two-drumset lineup to Butchy Sochorow’s soaring lead guitar and naturally dead-on Jerry Garcia-like voice, Splintered can do it all in a big way.

It will be joined by Control for Smilers, a tribute to Phish – another top-tier band in the world of improvised music.

The lineup for Control for Smilers, which also hails from Philadelphia, includes Matt Elberson on drums, Matt Agostini on bass, Brad Lukach on keys and Henry McGuigan on guitar.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 on Friday.

Doors open at 7 with an 8 p.m. show time.
