A-Treat Bottling Co. abruptly shuttered its Allentown facility in early 2015 and has remained vacant.
Now several years later, the former site of the local soda manufacturer, which began operations in 1918, will become a self-storage facility.
Union Boulevard Storage LLC, a company based in Alberta, Canada, bought several properties on Union Boulevard in Allentown owned by A-Treat Bottling Co. for $1.4 million, according to Lehigh County property transactions.
Doug Kelly, owner of Emerald Realty Group in Bethlehem said he and Logan Winchester, an advisor of Emerald Realty, represented the seller in the transaction. Union Boulevard Storage will convert the 58,680-square-foot warehouse, formerly the A-Treat bottling plant, into a personal self-storage facility, Kelly said.
“They will redo the entire building,” Winchester said. “They have started some work on the interior.”
The company plans to add a new roof and build multiple storage units in the building, he said.
“They are focused on the northeastern part of the United States,” Winchester said. “There’s a number of facilities they have been working on over the past several years.”
He said he is not sure when the facility will be up and running.
With the soda plant being there, the company had to complete extensive due diligence and remove several huge tanks, including some underground tanks, he added.
The sale included several other properties on the site that were owned by A-Treat.
Cushman & Wakefield, which has an office in Upper Macungie Township, represented the buyer.
