Though a March snowstorm delayed its grand opening, The Lesson Center marked the official opening of its fifth location Thursday night with a ribbon cutting at Park Plaza in Forks Township.
Members of the Easton Area Chamber of Commerce and Forks Business Association hosted the event as “TEDE,” one of the center’s resident student bands, played a live performance of several songs on the outdoor patio.
The location proved to a strong motivating factor for Lori and her husband and business partner Jeffrey Roberts to open one of their musical lesson centers.
“It’s an incredibly family friendly location,” said Lori Roberts, co-owner. “It’s kind of a one-stop shop for parents doing activities.”
Park Plaza, a shopping center with indoor and outdoor spaces, has several family-centered retailers, including BounceU and Gymtime as tenants.
The Lesson Center offers instruction in all types of popular and classical instruments, including voice, violin, guitar and piano, she said. Instructors focus on what the student and parent want to help them achieve their goals.
“We let them figure it out for themselves,” she said. “We let them decide.”
The Roberts began their venture 14 years ago and now own some of their centers and lease others. The locations include Bethlehem, Trexlertown, Coopersburg and Northampton.
“We like being entrepreneurs, we like working for ourselves,” she added.
She also likes to help musicians stay musicians, since the people she hires for music instructors are also musicians.
The center offers both private and group lessons and offers summer camps as well.
The grand finale of the camp ends with a Musikfest performance, she said.
The Lesson Center is at 1800 Sullivan Trail.
