Pottsville-based D.G. Yuengling & Sons Inc. is adding a new beer to its core product lineup, Yuengling Golden Pilsner, its first year-round beer to debut in 17 years.

The company describes Golden Pilsner as a crisp, smooth modern pilsner crafted with the perfect balance of hop and malt.

“Yuengling Golden Pilsner is our unique interpretation of a refreshing pilsner, with all of the qualities consumers have come to expect from Yuengling in a beer that is highly sessionable [a light, drinkable beer with low alcohol by volume] and full of flavor,” said Jen Yuengling, a sixth-generation brewer at Yuengling.

Yuengling Golden Pilsner, which has 4.7 percent alcohol by volume and 135 calories, is part of an emerging refreshment category in the beer market where the beers are distinguished by lighter, brighter and less bitter characteristics.

“We spent over 18 months developing this beer and believe it is a great choice for outdoor, social and active occasions. We’re excited for consumers to try it,” Yuengling said.

Beginning April 1, Yuengling Golden Pilsner will be available in cans and bottles in two markets in Pennsylvania: Schuylkill County and Harrisburg.

It will be available in the Lehigh Valley in July.

Yuengling Golden Pilsner is expected to be available across the company’s 22-state market by the end of the year.
