The Lehigh-Northampton Airport Authority said it promoted Thomas Stoudt as executive director of the LNAA, based in Hanover Township, Lehigh County. Stoudt has served as interim executive director for about six months while the airport authority conducted a national search for a replacement.
Charles Everett, former executive director for the LNAA, resigned from his position last year to become deputy director of aviation for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
The airport authority, which owns and operates a three-airport system, reviewed more than 50 resumes for the position.
Stoudt has worked for the airport authority for more than 20 years, starting as a baggage handler and an intern at Lehigh Valley International Airport.
“I have been enthralled with aviation in all aspects,” Stoudt said. “What really turned the course for me was doing an internship many years ago.”
His internship helped him learn how the airport system operates and discover the inner workings of airport management.
“It’s an honor to be in this position,” Stoudt said. “I think the organization is well-prepared for what we need to do.”
The airport authority has a strategic plan in place that will help it explore opportunities for growth, including real estate development, the impact of e-commerce, general aviation development and the customer service experience.
“We are in a really exciting time to start to develop this property and grow the airport system,” Stoudt said, noting that he wants to ensure the airport system is self-reliant.
“We continue to look to expand service,” he said.
Enhancing the customer experience also has been a focus of the staff at LVIA.
Stoudt has worked in operations, planning and engineering for the authority and, the past five years, was director of operations and safety.
He was the primary liaison to federal and state aviation operations and safety organizations.
Stoudt is the principal airport security coordinator for Lehigh Valley International Airport and directs the development and implementation of the airport security program and airport certification manual for LVIA.
Stoudt, 46, and his wife, Allison, live in South Whitehall Township.
