Carpenter Technology promotes two to top leadership positions

By ,

Carpenter Technology Corp., a Philadelphia-based manufacturer and distributor with a plant in Reading and another in Orwigsburg, said it promoted two chief executives to senior operating leadership positions, effective July 1.

Carpenter, with 2,300 employees in the Greater Lehigh Valley, promoted its chief operating officer, Joe Haniford, to vice president of the business management office and global advanced engineering, as well as the leadership of environmental, health and safety.

In this position, he will focus on the continued fulfillment of the company’s operating model and lean manufacturing principles across the company’s facilities. Haniford joined the company in 2015.

Carpenter Technology also promoted its chief technology officer, Mike Murtagh, to vice president and group president of specialty alloys operations. The company said it started a search for a new chief technology officer.

The company said the changes are in line with its strategic plan.

Carpenter Technology produces and distributes specialty alloys, including several types of steel.

The company moved its corporate headquarters from Spring Township to Philadelphia in 2016.
