The developers behind The Waterfront, a massive development along the banks of the Lehigh River in Allentown, plan to start construction on the first building on July 1.

Zachary Jaindl, chief operating officer for Jaindl Enterprises, made the announcement at an event this morning at The Hamilton Kitchen & Bar in downtown Allentown to share updates on the company’s developments.

The $350 million project involves construction of several office and residential buildings, plus space for retail tenants.

It’s that five-story residential building, 560 Waterfront Drive, that’s set to be the first building to go up, followed by 545 Riverside Drive, which is a parking structure, and 645 Waterfront, the project’s first office building.

Jaindl said he has a signed proposal for a single tenant user of 645 Waterfront, but is still in the leasing stage and could not announce the tenant yet. Another office building, 615 Waterfront Drive, is at the design stage.

560 Waterfront Drive will be a 175-unit complex that includes apartments, a center courtyard pool and river views, among other amenities.

The lead architect is Bernardon of West Chester, while High Construction Co. of Lancaster is the construction manager, Jaindl said.

Jaindl Enterprises also named David Rubin Land Collective of Philadelphia as the lead designer of the project’s half-mile River Walk, a path with outdoor amenities.

Though the developer bought the site in 2012, infrastructure work has taken about two and a half years. Now, Jaindl said his company is at the stage where construction will begin and the company is entering the third part of the Jaindl Enterprises development strategy, which includes steel going up as of July 1.

The event venue Vault 634, another Jaindl Enterprises’ project under construction in downtown Allentown, is set for a May opening, the company announced. It named Lyn Cunningham as the director of events and Eric Paez as the event sales manager.
