Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Bolete in Salisbury Township has been named among the 100 most romantic restaurants in America, according to OpenTable, an online restaurant reservation service.
Two other restaurants in Pennsylvania made the list: The Victor Café in Philadelphia and Altius in Pittsburgh.
Bolete (pronounced bo-leet) opened in 2007 in a quaint, 18th-century former stagecoach inn with fireplaces at 1740 Seidersville Road. Not only is the setting charming, the restaurant has won a string of awards since it opened. Its most recent was in October when People magazine named it as the most popular restaurant in Pennsylvania.
Bolete’s executive chef and co-owner Lee Chizmar was named a semifinalist for a James Beard Award in 2015. Chizmar co-owns the restaurant with his wife, Erin Shea. In 2016, the couple opened Mister Lee’s Noodles at Easton Public Market.
Bolete was among the top 100 restaurants to win a diners’ choice award from OpenTable in 2014. In 2008, Conde Nast Travel selected it among an international list of the 105 best new restaurants.
The OpenTable romantic restaurant winners list is based on more than 12 million restaurant reviews by verified OpenTable diners from more than 26,000 restaurants in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. collected between Dec. 1, 2016, and Nov. 30, 2017.
Restaurants were scored and sorted according to the percentage of reviews for which “romantic” was selected as a special feature.
North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia tied for the most number of restaurants that made the list, with eight each.
