Marketing your business can be imperative to success. Whether it be through print and mail advertising, billboards, digital or video production, there are multiple facets available to deliver your company's message.
Throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley, there are many advertising agencies, marketing firms and video production companies equipped with the resources to help your business succeed.
A relatively new one is Strunk Media Group in Richland Township, which opened three years ago.
Here to answer this week’s “Behind the List” questions is Matthew Strunk, owner and CEO of the company.
Lehigh Valley Business: How long has Strunk Media Group been operating in the region and what are its primary services?
Matthew Strunk: Strunk Media Group was founded by myself and my colleague, Devin Peterson, in April 2015.
We have been operating in the region for about three years now, offering services including SEO/SEM [search engine optimization/search engine marketing], reputation management, social media management and advertising, email marketing, graphic design, media and video production and website development.
Beyond digital marketing, we also work with our clients on their strategic marketing campaigns, branding and public relations efforts.
While Strunk Media has been growing rapidly, we strive to remain true to our roots. Customer service is our No. 1 priority, and we seek complete transparency when working with our clients.
We work together to create a custom plan specifically for the company and industry it operates in to solve their business challenges. We have become extensions of our clients’ businesses and continue to work with them to achieve maximum success. …
LVB: What have been some of the biggest challenges and opportunities that Strunk Media Group has encountered throughout its years in business?
Strunk: There are many challenges with starting a new business. I think the biggest challenge was simply the fact that the business model we envisioned never existed.
For example, a franchise has everything figured out – the recipes, prices, employees and organizational structure. Therefore, it is fairly smooth to reproduce successfully.
For Strunk Media, everything had to be created from scratch. What products are we going to offer? How will we structure pricing? What types of employees do we seek out? What processes need to be in place?
It’s a tremendous challenge just answering those questions, let alone implementing them effectively.
Other than that, I would say the biggest challenge would be just finding the activation energy to risk everything and put your money, time and heart into starting a company. It was a huge risk, and, until the ball really started rolling, we just had to hope that everything would work out.
With that being said, prior to starting this endeavor, we identified some great opportunities within this market. We developed several proprietary software solutions that were currently unavailable but needed, and that gave us a great opportunity to penetrate the marketplace.
LVB: Does Strunk Media Group provide its services solely in the Greater Lehigh Valley/Reading areas, or does it expand into other markets? Who are some of its most notable clients on a local level and what have been some of its greatest achievements in regard to video production?
Strunk: While Strunk Media Group provides majority of its services to businesses within the Greater Lehigh Valley/Reading areas, it is not limited to the region.
Strunk Media’s subsidiary company BitMoto, a digital marketing boutique catered specifically for the automotive industry, has clients all throughout the East Coast, reaching as far down as Alabama and Florida. Locally, BitMoto works with Haldeman Auto Group, Coccia Auto Group in Wilkes-Barre and Sloan Motors in Exton.
Strunk Media Group works predominantly with local businesses, including Levan Machine Co. in Fleetwood, Bartush Sign Co. in Orwigsburg, the Lehigh Center for Clinical Research in Allentown and the Wescoe School, part of Muhlenberg College in Allentown.
Strunk Media has been extremely proud of its video production projects. This past April, Strunk Media worked with Pacifico Auto Group in Philadelphia to write, direct and produce several 30-second commercials that were used as both YouTube pre-roll and broadcasted on local Philadelphia television networks.
Another recent project that really stands out to me was a promotional video for the 2017 March of Dimes Signature Chefs event in Berks County. The March of Dimes seeks preventing newborn birth defects and infant mortality, and our video told the heartbreaking story of D.J. and Salina Johnson, who lost one of their premature twins shortly after giving birth.
Out of all of the various projects we’ve been involved in, my personal favorite that we have produced to this day was for our client Dunphy Ford in Philadelphia, who hosted a “Sledgehammer Bash” charity event. Not only was the video for an awesome cause, but it also received over 47,000 views on social media and won awards at the 2017 Addy Awards and 2017 Communicator Awards. Plus, we literally smashed a car with a sledgehammer. Need I say more?
LVB: How does Strunk Media Group directly stimulate the local economy? How does it get involved with the local community?
Strunk: We stimulate the local economy through our employees and the various subcontractors we use. We have clientele in various states across the country, so we bring income in from those areas and distribute it locally.
Now that we have a strong business foundation and solid team, Strunk Media has been making a strong effort to become more involved in our local community.
As a veteran of the United States Air Force, I am always looking for new opportunities for us to become involved with other veteran businesses and organizations. I also recently agreed to become a board member of the Kutztown Area School District Education Foundation.
This past year, Strunk Media was happy to begin working with Kutztown University’s Career Development Center and has been providing internships for students that gives them a hands-on approach to digital marketing, as well as experience working in a professional setting.
LVB: What does the future look like for Strunk Media Group? Does it have plans for growth?
Strunk: The past year has been absolutely amazing for the Strunk Media team. We have gained exceptional clients as well as added new talent to our team.
Our efforts have also been recognized by the American Business Awards as both Veteran Business of the Year and Startup of the Year.
Now 2018 is upon us, and growth is our biggest goal as we plan to continue our expansion both within our workforce and clientele.
BitMoto is working on expanding its services nationally and becoming a huge player in the automotive industry.
Strunk Media is focusing on widening into new markets, becoming a major player in the Lehigh Valley, and also focusing on using the innovative advertising techniques we instill on our clients for our own company.
